If you haven’t received an offer of service for the trade(s) you want, or still haven’t decided on a trade, then this information might be helpful for you.

Please note: new applications are now closed for the following intakes. To be eligible for selection for a trade, you must have completed our application process, including providing us with all required documentation and passing Assessment Day and your interview.

Navy BCT 21/1 starting 22 February 2021

This intake is almost full!

Monday 2 November 2020: Air Force Recruitment

*This is the latest update of a previous announcement dated Monday 19 October 2020.

Please be aware there are currently a very limited number of vacancies for all Air Force trades in 2021.  While we encourage those interested in Air Force roles that have vacancies to apply now, we strongly recommend anyone considering applying for other Air Force roles to explore similar trades across Army and Navy. All new applications for Air Force trades that do not have vacancies will be placed on hold until vacancies become available.

We are continuing to process some existing Air Force applications. If you have already applied, your CEF will be in touch to confirm whether your application is continuing to be processed or being placed on hold.

Officer Trades

Vacancies

CIS Officer and Supply Officer require a Bachelor degree in a relevant specialisation. There are no RNZAF Undergraduate Scholarships available for these trades in 2021.

Tuesday 25 August: Update to BCT 20/2 start date for Auckland candidates

Due to the extension of Alert Level 3 restrictions in Auckland, we are unable to bring Auckland-based candidates onto Devonport Naval Base on Wednesday 26 August.

Instead, Auckland-based candidates will begin BCT 20/2 on Monday 31 August when Auckland moves to Alert Level 2 restrictions. Please arrive between 0730-0800 on Monday dressed in PT kit.

Between now and the start of your intake, please take extra care to follow Alert Level 3 precautions and isolate as much as possible to ensure you are healthy and well at the start of your intake. We will be screening candidates for flu-like symptoms upon arrival at Devonport.

There are no changes to the dates for course graduation and the mid-intake Church Service and Family Open Day.

We realise this slight delay may inconvenience you however this allows us to put all necessary measures in place to ensure the safety of our recruits and staff.

Thursday 20 August: Update to BCT 20/2 Start Date

Due to the current COVID Alert Level restrictions in Auckland, we are unable to begin BCT 20/2 on 23 August 2020 as previously planned.

Instead, BCT 20/2 has been postponed by 3 days and will now begin on Wednesday 26 August. There are no changes to the dates for course graduation and the mid-intake Church Service and Family Open Day.

Regions at Alert Level 2

You CEF will be in touch by email and phone over the next 24 hours with your amended Offer of Service and new travel details. Please make sure that you are available to take their call as it is vital that we can make the necessary arrangements for these new dates.

Regions at Alert Level 3

Your CEF will be in touch via email or phone on Monday 24 August.

We are continuing to follow Alert Level 2 social distancing guidelines.

BCT 20/2 Intake

The Alert Level 3 restrictions in the Auckland region mean a review of the impact on the BCT 20/2 intake is underway. All candidates currently selected to attend BCT 20/2 will receive an update by the end of this week.  In the meantime we recommend selected candidates stay home as much as possible and avoid personal contact with others in order to minimise the chance of becoming ill before your intake begins.

R2/20 Intake

There are currently no planned changes for R2/20. We ask selected candidates to please continue with completing any outstanding steps remaining in your application, and take appropriate steps to ensure you stay healthy and well before your intake begins.

Visiting NZDF premises - If you are visiting one of our recruitment offices for an appointment, please download the NZ Covid Tracer app before your arrival. A reminder, we are not accepting ‘walk-ins’, you must make an appointment in advance.

Assessment Days – Candidates visiting a recruitment office for an Assessment Day are requested to download the NZ Covid Tracer app before your arrival.

The day before your assessment you will be emailed an online medical screening questionnaire which must be completed before you enter the premises.

Please bring your own mask (optional) and drink bottle, and come wearing your PT gear so you don’t have to change clothes while visiting us.

Wednesday 12 August: Auckland region recruiting activities postponed

The New Zealand Defence Force are committed to serving and assisting New Zealand through the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We are following Government guidelines and Ministry of Health advice as the safety of candidates and staff is our top priority.

The recent announcement that the Auckland region has moved to Alert Level 3 at midday on Wednesday 12 August, and the rest of New Zealand has moved to Alert Level 2, means that we have made some changes to our recruitment activities.

Auckland Region – Alert Level 3

All face-to-face recruitment activity is postponed for the remainder of this week. This includes:

  • Force Fit sessions
  • Information evenings
  • Assessment Days
  • Face-to-face interviews
  • Induction Days

Our Grey Lynn and Manukau recruitment offices are also closed.

Candidate Engagement Facilitators (CEFs) will be in contact with affected candidates today.

Rest of New Zealand – Alert Level 2

We will be continuing recruitment activity outlined below while at Alert Level 2. Where face to face interactions are necessary, we will ensure health screening, contact tracing, physical distancing and enhanced hygiene practises are applied.

Recruitment Offices – Our offices will be accepting visitors by appointment only. Our preferred method of contact is telephone or video conferencing. Please use the Contact Us form to request a call back.

Force Fit Sessions – Will be continuing in those regions with the facilities available to adhere to social distancing requirements. Attendees will be required to register their contact details for tracing purposes. Initial and Full Medical Checks – Candidates can make appointments with GPs and medical centres, but should inform their CEF if they are unable to be seen by a doctor or specialist for any reason.

Friday 1 May 2020: Alert Level 3 updates

The New Zealand Defence Force are committed to serving and assisting New Zealand through the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to follow Government guidelines and Ministry of Health advice as the safety of candidates and staff is our top priority.

Whilst the country was at Alert Level 4, we had to make some postponements and cancellations. At Alert Level 3, all face-to-face recruitment activity remains postponed; this includes interviews, assessment and induction days and fitness-only sessions. Force Fit sessions and Information evenings will also remain cancelled until further notice. Level 3 does mean that we are looking to restart the recruitment activities we can run safely, as soon as the Government moves the country to Alert Level 2.

When you are contacted by your Candidate Engagement Facilitator regarding booking your next stages, please reply as quickly, and as accurately, as you can. This will allow your CEF to get you restarted on your recruitment journey as smoothly as possible.

We would also like to remind you to keep preparing for your Assessment Day using the sample tests and utilising the Force Fit PDFs and Force Fit Activator programme.

Wednesday 1 April 2020: Postponement of intakes

The New Zealand Defence Force are committed to serving and assisting New Zealand though the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We are following Government guidelines and Ministry of Health advice as the safety of candidates and staff is our top priority.

For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming recruitment intakes listed below:

  • RNZAF Recruit Course (R2)
  • RNZN Junior Officer Common Training (JOCT) Course
  • NZ Army Reserves Mod 1 course  (Christchurch)
  • NZ Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operator Selection Board
  • NZ Army Intelligence Operator Selection Board
  • RNZAF Officer Aircrew Selection Board (OASB)
  • RNZN Officer Selection Board (FOSB)

This follows the suspension of all face-to-face interviews, assessment and induction days, fitness-only sessions and information evenings.  If you are affected by any of these postponements your Candidate Engagement Facilitator (CEF) will contact you directly.

We have also regrettably cancelled all Force Fit and similar group training sessions until further notice. Sample Force Fit pdfs are available for download on the Force Fit page and the Force Fit Activator programme has been shared on the NZDF Defence Careers Facebook page. We are reviewing alternative options for delivering recruitment activities and will provide updates in due course.

We would like to reassure new and existing candidates that all applications will remain active while recruiting activities are disrupted and we will continue to support candidates through their recruitment journey. Please know that this is only a temporary setback, in what are extraordinary circumstances, towards commencing your career.

This means that there has already been, and will continue to be, an impact on recruitment activities for the foreseeable future. This includes postponing all face-to-face interviews, assessment and induction days and fitness-only sessions. We have also regrettably cancelled all Force Fit sessions and Information evenings until further notice. We are reviewing alternative options for delivering these and will provide an update on this soon.
