GNR Marshall joined the reserve forces in 2008 because he was interested in the challenges, confidence, leadership skills, great camaraderie and other unique opportunities that reserve service offered.

Currently serving with 11/4 Battery, 16th Field Regiment in Auckland, GNR Marshall has competed at several other skills competitions and been posted to Christchurch following the earthquake and Tauranga following the RENA disaster.

Since leaving Westlake Boys High School, GNR Marshall has juggled his reserve career with pursuing a Bachelor of Education from Auckland University of Technology.

“Having parallel careers gives me a unique opportunity to pass on the Army’s core values of courage, commitment, comradeship and integrity to other young New Zealanders” says GNR Marshall.

The Reservist of the Year award was presented by Mrs Joan Clouston the daughter of Sir Harold Barrowclough who was a reservist known for his conspicuous bravery and brilliant leadership during the first and second World Wars.
